As a Democrat, I have many friends, who are “good” Republicans. I respect their ideas, and we can often have healthy debate that usually can find a common ground somewhere in the middle. However, reproductive freedom has been a difficult one for many of them. I’m so glad that there is a Republican voice speaking out in favor of women. You can be a strong, fiscally conservative, Republican…but, I know many of my GOP friends will be thrilled with this!

Abortion Issue:
The abortion issue should not be a political issue. It should be between a woman and her doctor. It’s her body. If she wishes to consult anyone, she is free to do so, but not required.

Responsibility Issue:
Everyone past the age of 18 or 21 need to be responsible for themselves. The United States is not a “nanny state”. If everyone took their own responsibility, the US would be a different place.

Firearm Issue:
They are legal in the Second Amendment in our US Constitution. There is no flexibility or exemptions. It would make people think twice before they did any unnecessary shooting.

Illegal Drugs Issue:
Make it all legal and tax it the same as cigarettes. They are no different.

Fiscal Conservative Issue:
I am a fiscal conservative and feel everyone needs to learn to live within their means.

I have become a fiscal conservative at the age of 62. However I would march again in Washington, DC as I did before in the Pro-Choice march. I try to vote Republican when I know their history is more liberal on the social issues.

If the Republican party were to embrace e.g., “Choice” it would lose the “Pro-Life” segment of the party. For every change in so-called fundamental principles ther are bothmembers towin and to lose. Which way gains the greatest number of votes?

Members might say they will not give in on pirnciple. However if the party continues to lose and not govern, it does not matter what it stands for. It only counts if the party wins and can determine the governments’s agenda

Attacks on reproductive rights have increased tenfold in the past few years, especially since the rise of the far-right fringe social extremism often accompanying the Tea Party. Anti-choice extremists across the country have introduced over one thousand measures this legislative session alone aimed at decimating access to, funding for and/or legality of reproductive health and family planning services. And women’s personal freedom’s and reproductive health have suffered because of it. (And Representative Todd Akin has authored and endorsed a number of these anti-choice bills within the Missouri state legislature.) Gallup recently found that gender gap in the 2012 Election was the largest in their history– they have been measuring this since 1952. This is certainly not due to just name-calling Democrats. Legislation and the GOP Platform have becoming increasingly extreme, and voters noticed. RMC’s goal and charter is not to support all Republicans across the board. We endeavor to return the GOP to a true “big-tent” party where diversity of opinion– including the pro-choice opinion– is welcome, and we promote those pro-choice Republicans who will support this message as well.
