North Dakota lawmakers began building a war chest Wednesday to defend against any lawsuits that arise from new state laws imposing the nation’s toughest abortion restrictions.
Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley signed a law Tuesday that drastically raises the safety requirements for abortion clinics to operate — a measure that would shut down clinics and “an almost certain legal challenge.”

On Wednesday, a Texas House State Affairs Committee hearing considered a ban on abortions in the state after 20 weeks of pregnancy unless the mother’s life is in imminent danger. The current threshold in Texas is after 27 weeks.
