House to Vote on Unconstitutional Abortion Ban Today- Sign Our Petition Now!

ImageLast year, Anti-choice Rep. Trent Franks’ District of Columbia 20-Week Abortion ban failed in the House. This year, extremists are at it again, pushing a bill that the federal courts have already deemed unconstitutional and most Americans agree is overreaching. The House is expected to vote on this bill (HR1797) today.

The new attempt by Franks, including an amendment applying the bill nationwide, is based on an Arizona law that was struck down this past May when a federal court determined this ban violates previous rulings by the Supreme Court and infringes on a woman’s right to choose as established by Roe v. Wade.

But apparently the word of the courts is of as much consequence to Franks as the will of the people, a majority of which oppose this unconstitutional government overreach.

Although he has since back pedaled,  Rep. Franks’ inaccurate and offensive comments last week led to rampant comparisons to infamous Missouri Senate candidate Rep. Todd “legitimate rape” Akin and renewed cries of a GOP “war on women.”

But this legislation does not represent real Republican values of limited government or personal liberty.  And even with the newly added exceptions for rape and incest – snuck in by disgraced anti-choice House Republicans over the weekend –  this dangerous bill fails to adequately protect American women.

In light of his recent ill-won notoriety, Franks is stepping down from the spotlight– but Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), one of the most vehement and extreme anti-choice Reps. in Congress, is ready to take his place. We cannot afford to sit back while such extremists claim to be the spokespeople for the Republican majority – true conservatives want an end to this ongoing infringment upon the rights granted to all Americans by the constitution.
