The Illinois Supreme Court has upheld the constitutionality of a 1995 law that requires doctors to notify parents of girls younger than 17 who seek an abortion.

Capping weeks of divisive protests and political drama, the Texas Senate approved one of the nation’s most extreme anti-choice bills in a 19-11 vote, following earlier approval by the state House. The bill now goes to Gov. Rick Perry (R) who has pledged to sign it.

After a grueling debate, lawmakers voted overwhelmingly on Friday to back Ireland’s first bill on abortion, legalizing the practice in exceptional cases where doctors deem the woman’s life to be at risk from her pregnancy.
