A new case explores the rights of fetus in mother: A pregnant woman who acknowledged previous painkiller addiction found herself accused of endangering her unborn child. The fetus has been appointed a legal guardian, while her own pleas for a lawyer were brushed aside.

Guttmacher Research Institute (USA)
A new report finds that in 2008, 2 of 3 unplanned pregnancies resulted in births that were publicly funded, and the combined cost of all those births was $12.5 billion. Guttmacher warns these costs would double in the absence of publicly supported family planning services.

Washington Post (Washington, DC)
Eleven attorneys general, along with the White House, want the Supreme court to review a lower-court opinion that found that the contraception mandate violates a business’s freedom of religion.
