New Mexico’s largest city is poised to become another crucible in the nationwide battle over abortion rights as voters head to the polls today to vote on an anti-choice measure that would outlaw the procedure after 20 weeks with no exceptions for rape, incest or the life of the woman.

Five years after Michigan voters amended the state constitution to allow research using human embryonic stem cells, the University of Michigan has developed 12 stem cell lines used to research crippling diseases and possible cures, including a nerve disorder, a blood clotting disorder, a disease that causes blindness and the deadly Huntington’s disease.
