New Threat to Reproductive Health Care Heads to House FloorPosted: January 16, 2014
Last night the House Judiciary Committee approved H.R. 7, a bill that threatens women’s healthcare and pocketbooks. If passed, H.R. 7 would have a drastic impact on private insurance plans for millions of women and would raise taxes on many small businesses. Currently 80 percent of insurance plans include coverage of the basic aspect of reproductive health. All of these plans would be affected.
We need the support of mainstream Republicans today! With your help we can stop this bill from becoming law and get to work ensuring members of the House understand the full consequences of their votes. Sign the petition today and help us fight this irresponsible legislation!
Despite claims that this bill is about funding for abortion, the truth is, government funding for abortion services has been illegal since the enactment of the 1976 Hyde Amendment. This bill aims to restrict access to abortion coverage by barring federal tax credits to individuals who use their own money to purchase plans that offer abortion coverage or small businesses who offer their employees such coverage. The passage of H.R. 7 would actually raise taxes on those women and small business owners who choose to purchase private insurance plans that include abortion coverage.
This legislation reveals that extremist lawmakers are still fixated on restricting personal liberty at all costs. Support REAL Republican values and tell the government to stay out of our pocketbooks and our personal lives – sign the petition now!
