Anti-Choice Lawmakers to Push Unconstitutional BillPosted: May 9, 2014
Social extremists in the Senate, led by South Carolina’s Lindsey Graham, are renewing efforts on S. 1670, an anti-choice bill introduced last year.
If passed, the law would place a federal ban on abortion after 20 weeks. That cutoff is based on the disputed science of fetal pain, and is blatantly unconstitutional under Roe v. Wade.
The House passed a companion bill last year, H.R. 1797. On the Senate side, the bill remains in committee, but Graham’s push could result in some movement. The legislation will likely help Sen. Graham in his upcoming June primary, but represents a sharp departure from the true Republican principles of small government and individual liberty.
