Texas reproductive health clinics that also offer abortion services asked a federal judge on Monday to block enforcement of stringent new building and equipment standards, set to take effect on Sept. 1. These anti-choice laws could force more than half the state’s remaining  clinics to shut down, leaving fewer than 10 across a sprawling state.

A pro-choice bill introduced last week in the Senate would require the military’s TRICARE insurance program to cover contraception for no additional co-pay, just as the civilian population is guaranteed under the Affordable Care Act. The bill would also require the Department of Defense to provide family planning counseling for all servicewomen at specific points during her service.
