GOP leaders are scheduling a House vote next week on legislation to ban late-term abortions. The bill was shelved in January after an intra-party dispute in which a small core of centrist lawmakers argued the bill would force rape victims to report their crimes. Several of these lawmakers also warned the vote could turn women away from the GOP.

Oklahoma this fall will triple the length of its abortion waiting period, the latest in a flurry of state activity on such policies; and there are more states to follow.

The Wisconsin State Legislature unveiled an anti-choice bill Thursday that would ban abortions 20 weeks after fertilization, staking out an approach tried by abortion opponents in other states, where it has resulted in court battles.
